
Patrick Rainey, PhD, DABT
Dr. Rainey joined SLP as the Director of Analytical Toxicology in 2012 and was promoted to Chief Scientific Officer in 2014 and COO in 2016. Dr. Rainey’s responsibilities include leading a team of scientists that manage SLP’s client portfolio of practice-owned laboratories and reference laboratories, directing research and development efforts for alternative clinical testing regimes utilizing LC-MS/MS technology and performing the scientific work required to obtain FDA approval for new clinical analyzers and reagent product offerings. His previous industrial research experience includes identifying harmful constituents of cigarette smoke and monitoring their effects on biological pathways within immortalized HeLa lung cells in vitro as the Director of Research and Development with Vector Research based in Durham, NC. Before joining SLP, Dr. Rainey was a chemistry professor at the North Carolina School of Science & Math where he taught Advanced Chemistry and Organic Chemistry courses and labs as well as mentored students in the pursuit of science careers.

Dr. Rainey’s extensive education background includes a B.S. in Chemistry with a minor in Mathematics from the University of Central Arkansas and a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Texas A&M. Upon completion of his PhD, Dr. Rainey was awarded the National Science Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship at the National Institute of Standards & Technology (NIST) in the Materials Science and Engineering Department. Dr. Rainey has earned Diplomate status with the American Board of Toxicology as a certified toxicologist.
